Licensing

There are two licensing models for Microsoft SQL Server 2008: per client or per processor.

In case of per-processor licensing one Microsoft SQL Server is required for each server processor, which is called by those operating systems where Microsoft SQL Server is installed.

In case of per-client licensing one license is required for each server and a customer license for each user of device that will use Microsoft SQL Server. For those products that work with Microsoft SQL Server and are licensed within this model it is necessary to buy Microsoft SQL Server customer licenses for each user of device that call the corresponding server, even if there may be no direct call of Microsoft SQL Server.

In case of acquiring licenses for those Microsoft products that have the built-in Microsoft SQL Server technology additional licenses for Microsoft SQL Server are not required. However, these licenses can be used only with that server for which they have been purchased.
